While flipping through TV channels one evening last year, I stumbled upon "Orangutan Island" which airs on Animal Planet. The show is dedicated to teaching viewers about orangutans. I fell in love with these beautiful creatures who share roughly 97.8% of their DNA with humans. So threatened is their livelihood; so precious are these animals to our world. In recent years, the unprecedented rapid deforestation of the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra, coupled with the sale of orangutan babies as pets, has virtually decimated the orangutan population. But as the TV show claims, "there is hope." To celebrate orangutans and recognize the urgent need to save these highly endangered apes and their rainforest habitat, we offer our newest InspirationTote - "Freedom" - whereby a percentage of our sales benefits Orangutan Outreach. Inspired by Maine’s people and their values, Ann designed four totes to embrace their sense of community, optimism and environmental stewardship.
